Debbie Hatswell

Background:

In my early 20’s I studied a Bachelor of Economics at Monash University, and then set off to explore the world. Having finished the working holiday rite of passage, I returned to the city of my heart and family in Melbourne.

From that time, I worked my way up the ranks at one of the big 4 Aussie banks, and enjoyed wrangling large client relationships including government entities and corporate superannuation funds. I was promoted to participate in an operational leadership team and to run a back office business unit. During my time in banking I earned my stripes in business writing, removing corporate jargon, delivering difficult and challenging messages, communicating plainly and getting to the point quickly.

After becoming a mum in 2009, by 2012 I began to struggle in the corporate life. Fighting ferocious mother guilt left me feeling conflicted and unfulfilled. So I embraced my inner corporate-drop-out and joyfully jumped on the entrepreneur bandwagon.

In late 2012 I launched my first solo business venture, an ecommerce store for parents to source and deliver recommended books for children. It delivered the dream of working flexibly, from home.

Without a shop front or any brand awareness, I had little choice but to throw myself into the world of digital marketing. I found over time I loved making content work hard, connect with and resonate with ideal clients.

In November 2014 I was proud to be appointed to the National Board of the Children’s Book Council of Australia. My time on the board was spent helping them transform their website and reach their audience via Facebook and Twitter. This association helped me reach a dynamic, wide and varied engaged community.

Great Content Attracts Great Clients

From 2013 to the current day, I have used my digital marketing powers to help other businesses. I have enjoyed watching them grow their online communities, raise their brand awareness and convert their audience into clients. I get a thrill from delivering content that resonates, is relevant and informative and drives action.
